Sofa and Upholstery Cleaning London

Fabric seats collect body oils, dust and the occasional spill. We check the fabric, care label and cushion construction before choosing a treatment for your sofa, armchair or upholstered seating.

Cleaning the areas that get used most

The arms, headrests and front edge of a sofa often collect more soil than the back. Skin oils, hair products and food residues can build up gradually until the fabric looks darker or feels different. A useful clean addresses those contact areas while respecting the fabric and the way the cushions are made.

Describe the furniture rather than giving only a seat count. A compact two-seater, deep modular sofa and sofa bed can require quite different work. Tell us about detachable cushions, fixed backs, loose covers and separate footstools. If you want dining chairs or an armchair included, list them when requesting the quote so the visit covers the seating you actually need.

Care labels, velvet and mixed fabrics

A label can identify recommended care, but the furniture still needs checking. Cotton, linen, synthetic blends and textured fabrics vary in moisture tolerance and colour stability. Velvet and pile fabrics can change appearance with the direction of the fibres; some marks are shading rather than soil. Previous cleaning or sun damage can also affect the likely result.

Do not assume a removable cover is machine washable. Covers may shrink differently from the cushion beneath them, and decorative panels can have different care requirements. Fanatic’s published service describes steam or extraction cleaning and dry cleaning according to the material. Leather needs another approach entirely, explained on our leather sofa cleaning page.

A controlled process for upholstered seating

Dry debris is removed from accessible seams and surfaces before the main treatment. Spots and heavily used areas are considered separately, and the chosen cleaning method should avoid unnecessary saturation of padding. With an appropriate extraction method, a small upholstery tool applies and recovers solution in a controlled area. Lower-moisture care may be considered where the fabric calls for it.

A fabric sofa is not cleaned simply by using the same settings as a fitted carpet. Seams, piping, buttons and hidden metalwork can complicate treatment. The equipment and products should suit the fabric and cushion construction. Tell us about sensitivities, previous product reactions or unusual finishes before treatment so the intended approach can be discussed.

Before the cleaner arrives

Remove throws, blankets and personal items, and make the sofa accessible from the sides. Keep pets away from the work area. Tell us if the furniture is against a wall, up stairs or in a room with limited ventilation. Do not disconnect or move electrical recliner parts without following the manufacturer’s guidance and agreeing the access needed.

Point out previous repairs, loose stitching, torn fabric and any marks hidden by cushions. Be clear whether the quote covers front surfaces only, both sides of removable cushions or the accessible back as well. Heavy furniture movement and opening a sofa-bed mechanism should be discussed in advance. Our contact page lists the details that make the booking easier.

Drink spills, greasy arms and pet accidents

Food oils and drink spills respond differently from dye transfer or permanent discolouration. A mark from dark clothing may have affected the fabric colour, while a sticky deposit can be removable residue. Give us the source of the mark if known and the products already applied. Repeated scrubbing can fray fibres and leave a lighter patch even if some staining comes out.

Pet accidents may reach the padding beneath the cover. Cleaning the visible fabric cannot guarantee the entire internal filling is decontaminated. Explain recurring odours or a large spill so the limits can be assessed. We make no medical, sterilisation or universal allergen-removal claim for furniture cleaning. Worn upholstery, broken springs and damaged foam require repair rather than another cleaning pass.

What affects the sofa quote

The size bands below provide an initial guide to the sofa quotation. They are useful for planning but do not replace a confirmed quote. Modular layouts, extra cushions, fabric type, stain treatment, awkward access and separate chairs can change the total. Confirm the complete scope, total and VAT before booking; no additional fees are added above the agreed quotation.

A quote should specify the furniture and scope, not just an attractive starting price. If carpets or a rug also need cleaning, discuss them in the same enquiry through carpet cleaning or rug cleaning. Each item still needs a suitable method; a combined appointment is not a reason to use one process for every textile.

Drying the cushions properly

Allow the sofa to dry before sitting on it or replacing covers and throws. The filling can retain moisture longer than the surface suggests. Follow the advice for cushion positioning and airflow, and avoid trapping damp cushions tightly together. Do not use direct heat on a sensitive fabric to force a quicker result.

Room temperature, humidity, filling depth and the chosen method all affect drying. If the sofa must be used that evening, explain that before accepting the booking rather than relying on a universal drying promise. Check the price guide for booking questions and London coverage for the planned service area. Postcode and availability are confirmed when you call.

Seats beyond the living room

Upholstery cleaning can also be relevant to fabric armchairs, dining seats and similar furniture, subject to their construction. Those items are included under this service rather than placed on a near-identical second page. Office chairs and commercial seating should be described separately, particularly where there are many items or access needs to be coordinated.

Regular vacuuming with the appropriate attachment helps remove dry crumbs and dust between professional visits. Follow the maker’s guidance for spot care. Blot a spill promptly, keep a note of what caused it and avoid flooding the cushion. The most useful care routine protects the textile instead of trying to erase every mark with increasingly aggressive products.

A clear plan for your upholstery

Seat count alone cannot describe upholstery. Tell Fanatic about detachable cushions, mixed fabrics and care labels so the scope covers the surfaces you need. Confirm the method and drying arrangements before the sofa returns to use.

Questions about sofa & upholstery cleaning

Are upholstery and sofa cleaning different services?

Fabric sofas, armchairs and similar upholstered seating share this service. The quotation still identifies each item and its fabric; leather has a separate treatment page.

Can you clean removable covers on the cushions?

That depends on the care label and construction. Removable does not mean machine washable, and washing can alter the fit. Discuss the covers before taking them off.

Does the quote include the sofa back?

Agree the accessible surfaces, both sides of cushions and any footstool when booking. A seat count alone does not define everything included.

Can you remove dark-clothing dye transfer?

It needs assessment and may be permanent. Dye transfer is different from ordinary surface soil, so complete removal cannot be promised.

Should I stand cushions upright afterwards?

Follow the specific drying advice. The aim is useful airflow without distorting the cushion or letting colour transfer onto another surface.

Can you clean an electrical recliner?

Describe its mechanism and access. Electrical parts and connections need protection, and cleaning does not include repair or servicing of the recliner.

Will a pet smell disappear completely?

Odour held inside the filling can remain after surface cleaning. Tell us about the contamination so the source and realistic options can be assessed.
