Leather Sofa Cleaning London
Leather cleaning needs a finish-led approach. We assess the surface, wear and earlier products before removing soil and considering suitable conditioning for your sofa or armchair.

Identify the finish before treating the leather
Leather is not a single washable surface. A protected, pigmented finish behaves differently from absorbent aniline leather, and suede or nubuck needs separate consideration. The original care information is useful because two brown sofas can look similar while needing very different handling. The first decision is what the finish can tolerate.
Tell us the age of the furniture if known, its maker and any cleaning or conditioning products already used. Mention sticky areas, fading, cracking or a patch that darkens when touched with water. These observations help distinguish removable soil from deterioration of the finish. Cleaning should not begin with an aggressive product chosen only because the furniture looks dirty.

Body oils, seams and everyday soil
Arms, headrests and seat edges take the most contact. Body oils and household dust can build up in textured grain and around seams. The service describes removing loose soil and using leather-specific cleaners, followed by conditioning where suitable. This is a controlled surface process rather than a carpet extraction treatment applied to leather.
Gentle working and appropriate cloths matter, particularly around damaged stitching or exposed edges. Too much moisture can affect absorbent leather and padding. A conditioner is not automatically suitable for every finish and should not be applied as a universal cure. We discuss the planned treatment instead of promising a particular product brand or an identical routine for all leather furniture.
What cleaning can and cannot change
Removing surface residue can improve the feel and appearance of a sofa, but cleaning does not rebuild a worn protective coating. Peeling, deep cracks, scratches and faded colour may need restoration or replacement. A patch where the finish has worn away can still look uneven afterwards because the material itself has changed.
Ink and dye transfer require particular caution. Trying to dissolve a mark can also disturb the finish surrounding it. Explain what caused the stain and what has already been attempted. We do not promise that a pen mark, hair dye or dark clothing transfer will disappear without affecting colour. Fabric upholstery cleaning has different limits and should not be used as a guide for leather care.
Conditioning with a clear purpose
Where it is appropriate, conditioning is intended to support care of the leather after cleaning. It does not replace missing finish or repair a torn seam. Over-application can leave residue and change the feel of the surface, so more product is not necessarily better. Follow the advice for the particular finish rather than a general internet recipe.
Avoid household oils, furniture polish and abrasive pads before the appointment. Keep the container or name of any previous product so it can be identified. If the sofa has recently been recoloured or repaired, tell us when and by whom. A newly restored finish may have its own curing period and care instructions that need to be respected.

Preparing a leather sofa for the visit
Remove cushions or objects only where they are designed to come off safely. Clear blankets and personal items, and give access around the furniture. Point out vulnerable seams, recliner controls and hidden damage before work. Agree any heavy furniture movement rather than pulling a large sofa across the floor at the last minute.
The quotation should identify the armchair or sofa, approximate size and accessible surfaces. For sectional furniture, list the modules and chaise section. Send photographs only through a channel agreed with the team. You can use the details on our contact page to prepare an enquiry, including your postcode and floor-level access.
A realistic price for the furniture
The size-based ranges below are estimates for an initial enquiry. These remain indicative: condition, finish, specialist marks and access can alter the work required. Ask which treatments are included and whether any separate conditioning or spot treatment has been quoted. Confirm the included care, total and VAT before booking; no additional fees are added above the agreed quotation.
Our price guide brings the published estimates together without turning them into guaranteed tariffs. If a nearby rug also needs attention, rug cleaning can be discussed at the same time. Keep the items separate in the scope, because treating the leather and cleaning a woven rug require different methods.

Using the sofa after treatment
Follow the advice about drying or settling time before sitting on the furniture, replacing throws or allowing pets onto it. A surface that looks dry may still have product that needs time before normal use. Avoid direct heaters or strong sunlight to force drying, particularly where the finish is already fragile.
Regular light dust removal with a suitable soft cloth can reduce build-up between professional visits. Follow the maker’s care instructions and keep abrasive household products away from the sofa. Moving the furniture out of persistent strong sunlight, where practical, can reduce uneven fading. Check London coverage and call to arrange an assessment-led visit.

A clear plan for your leather furniture
Discuss Fanatic’s leather-specific service, coating damage and product compatibility before agreeing surface cleaning. Finish suitability determines the approach. Ask separately about any restoration the furniture may need.
Questions about leather sofa cleaning
Can you clean suede or nubuck?
These need a separate suitability assessment. Do not assume the surface-cleaning process described for protected leather will be used on them.
Will conditioning repair cracked leather?
No. Conditioning is not a replacement for damaged finish or split leather. Cracks and structural damage may need specialist repair.
Can you remove biro ink?
Ink may have entered the finish or leather itself. Treatment must be assessed carefully, and complete removal without colour change is not guaranteed.
Why is one arm darker than the rest?
Contact oils, soil, fading and finish wear can all change its appearance. Inspection helps distinguish removable residue from permanent material change.
Should I apply polish before you arrive?
No. Avoid introducing new products before assessment. Tell us the names of products already used so residues and compatibility can be considered.
Do you recolour leather?
This page covers cleaning and appropriate care, not a guaranteed recolouring service. Restoration requirements should be discussed separately.
Is steam extraction used on leather?
Leather requires a finish-appropriate process rather than assuming a fabric or carpet extraction method. The planned treatment should be agreed for your furniture.
