Professional Curtain Cleaning London

Curtain fabric, lining and heading all influence the cleaning method. We assess the whole construction and discuss access, removal and drying before the work is agreed.

Look at the lining as well as the face fabric

A curtain is often made from several materials joined together. The face fabric, lining, interlining, headings and decorative trims may respond differently to moisture or handling. A strong-looking fabric can have a brittle lining behind it, especially where sunlight has reached the window for years. Assessing only the visible front is not enough.

Give us the approximate width and drop, number of panels and any care label. Say whether they are lined, blackout or interlined. If they are handmade or have been altered, mention that too. Photographs of the label, heading and damaged areas can help when a suitable way to send them is arranged, but suitability still needs checking before treatment.

Dust removal and material-led cleaning

Dust can collect in pleats and along the top of a curtain without an obvious stain. Controlled dry-soil removal prepares the fabric before suitable further cleaning. Fragile fabric, loose trims and weakened seams need gentle handling rather than an aggressive brush used on every curtain.

Steam or a suitable dry method may be considered according to the fabric. That general description is not a guarantee that every silk, velvet, blackout coating or thermal lining can be treated in the same way. Ask which method is proposed for your curtains. Confirm the proposed process and any off-site arrangements before booking.

Hanging cleaning, removal and high windows

The practical plan depends on the construction, room and chosen method. Ask whether the curtains would be cleaned in place or removed, and who would take them down and rehang them. Confirm whether removal and rehanging are included in your quote, particularly with heavy panels or complicated headings.

Give the window height and explain access around radiators, furniture and delicate flooring. Tall stairwell windows or large commercial installations may need arrangements beyond an ordinary domestic visit. Do not climb or dismantle fittings yourself unless safe and appropriate. Tracks, poles and blind mechanisms are not assumed to be repaired or serviced as part of fabric cleaning.

Marks, fading and moisture-sensitive coatings

Some marks are deposits on the fabric, while others reflect damage to dyes or coatings. Sun fading cannot be washed back to its original colour. Water marks, mildew-like patches and staining near an open window need assessment, and the cause of any continuing damp should be addressed before cleaning is arranged.

Shrinkage and dye movement are real considerations with sensitive materials. Tell us about previous washing, dry cleaning or a product sprayed onto the fabric. A damaged blackout coating may remain damaged after the cloth is cleaned. We avoid promising universal stain removal or a new appearance where the textile has aged or weakened.

Preparing the room for a curtain visit

Remove ornaments and loose items from the window area and provide space to work. Explain any furniture that cannot be moved and agree responsibility for access. Keep children and pets away from the active work area. If panels are being taken down, identify them clearly so the correct pair and position are retained.

Do not wash a lining or spot-treat a mark immediately before the visit. Keep the care information available and point out fraying seams or hooks that have pulled through the heading. For other soft furnishings in the room, sofa and upholstery cleaning can be discussed separately, with each material receiving its own assessment.

Quoting by dimensions and construction

The estimated curtain range of £30–£100 is a general guide, not a fixed price per panel or pair. A useful quotation needs dimensions, material, lining, quantity and handling arrangements.

Ask whether taking down, rehanging, specialist stain treatment and any transport are included. Confirm the total, VAT position and minimum charge rather than multiplying a starting figure by the number of windows. Our price guide sets out estimated ranges and the details to confirm before booking. No additional fees are added above the agreed quotation.

Drying without forcing the fabric

Drying depends on the textile, lining and chosen method. Avoid direct high heat and follow the instructions given for the particular construction. A thick lining can retain moisture after the face fabric seems dry. Replacing or gathering curtains tightly before they are ready can restrict airflow and leave unwanted marks.

Once dry, gentle routine dust removal in line with the manufacturer’s guidance can reduce build-up. Check London coverage and contact us with window dimensions and access details. If floors near the windows also need attention, arrange carpet cleaning as its own part of the scope, not as an assumed extra.

A clear plan for your curtains

Curtain fittings and lining can change the whole job. Discuss the fabric, height and removal arrangements with Fanatic before booking, rather than assuming a general curtain-cleaning range includes every panel and all rehanging work.

Questions about curtain cleaning

Is the quoted price per panel or per pair?

The published estimate does not define that unit clearly. Provide the panel count and dimensions and request a total quotation for your curtains.

Do I need to take the curtains down?

Agree this before booking. Method, weight, window height and fittings affect whether cleaning in place or removal is appropriate.

Can blackout curtains be cleaned?

The fabric and blackout coating both need assessment. A damaged coating cannot be restored simply by cleaning the face fabric.

Will faded curtain edges regain their colour?

No. Sun fading is a change to the dye, not ordinary dirt. Cleaning may remove soil but does not reverse that colour loss.

Do you repair tracks and poles?

This service concerns curtain fabric. Do not assume fittings, tracks or mechanisms will be repaired; discuss separate needs when calling.

Can velvet curtains be treated?

Suitability depends on the fibre, pile, lining and care guidance. Do not assume that all velvet tolerates the same method.

What measurements should I provide?

Give approximate width and drop, number of panels, lining type and window height. Identify special headings or trims and include the care label if available.
